Remembering Prince Alemayehu: The First Ethiopian Adoptee?

Today is the birthdate of the late Dejazmatch Alemayehu Tewodros, born on this date on April 23, 1861.
Prince Alemayehu was the son of late Emperor Tewodros II, who ended his life by suicide on Easter Day 1868 when British forces entered his fortress in Ethiopia to rescue a group of British missionaries and diplomats.

Prince Alamayehu was brought to Britain under British care. Prince Alamayehu died of illness at age 18 on November 14, 1879 and was interned on the grounds of Windsor Castle .
